Portraits for Kids and Any Age

Add some whimsy to your portraits, no matter what age you are.

Imagine yourself 20 years from now. You have three grandbabies under the age of five. The oldest walks over and asks, “What’d you used to look like Grammy, before you had all those lines on your face?” You laugh and sweetly say, “Oh honey, I used to be glamorous before I had your daddy. Here, let me show you.” And, you pull out photos that were taken decades ago.

Those photos aren’t just any ole portraits either; they are exciting and maybe even show a different side of you. Heck, maybe they even show some skin. Gasp!

You smile and think back to that very day you played dress-up. And, instantly, the images take you back, to that moment in time.

Your grandbaby laughs and says “That isn’t you.” Oh, but, honey, it is.

Why You Should Have Portraits

Photos are more than a piece of paper you stick inside a frame. (And, if you’ve been here before, you know I’m on my soapbox saying they're definitely more than a file in your phone). They’re much, much more. They are a treasured timepiece. They take you back in time. Photos are a piece of history. You’ll remember the weather that day, the smell in the air, the chill or the humid stickiness, and maybe the mood you or the photographer were in. Perhaps you woke up that day not feeling great, and the photographer’s energy helped your mood.

You can add special touches to your session that will make the experience better and more personal. Bringing a stack of your favorite books to your session can take your photos from blah to Ahhh! Sit on the stack or use the stack as a pillow to create some extra fun.

Photos boost self-confidence and create lasting memories.

Don’t think of a portrait session as a “have to” task. Think of it as a “must-do” task!

You need portraits in your life. After you’re gone, your children will have them to cherish, then their children will have them, and so on.

Photo albums are treasured

What Kind of Portraits

What kind of portraits should you have taken? Whatever kind you want, of course.

  • If you want to lay in the cool summer grass while reading a book under a shady tree, do it.

  • Do you want to wield a sword in the sky and poke the clouds? Do that! Hold 2 swords, one in each hand. Poke all the clouds!

  • If wearing fairy wings while dancing under the moon, is more your vibe, I’ll need to pack extra lighting, but we can do it!

Who Needs Portraits

Who actually wants their photo taken? I know, many people feel uncomfotable in front of the camera. It can be an awkward situation and experience. Heck, I feel funny in front of the camera, too.

Portraits give you a chance to embrace who you are. Who do you want to be? Maybe you want to share your past. These aren't just pictures; they're your story.

Dear moms, stop with the “I need to lose X first”. Your kids don’t care whether or not you lose the extra pounds. They will care, that they have photos of you for years, long after you’re gone.

Kids need portraits of themselves too. Nothing makes a child feel more welcomed and loved, than seeing photos of themselves in their own home. It gives them a sense of belonging.

To take endearing photos of your kids, we’ll let them play at the park. They can run in the sand, swing, and do cartwheels while I capture special moments for you and them.

Grandparents, it's never too late for portraits! When did you last dress up for yourself? Wear something new or a favorite outfit from simpler times. Photos are for creating memories.

Have fun with your photos!

Photography is supposed to be fun. Getting your photos taken should be exciting, not stiff or boring. Bring fun props and grab that sparkly dress from the back of your closet. You know the one. And, let’s take some pictures.
